When we did the sea trial on the c-36 we are looking at, it has an in boom furlin, which I like the idea, but it was a major under taking to get the sail up and down. (took 3 men to do it)
Not knowing much about them I do not know why, but my assment is that it was way out of adjustment.
The boom was no were near 90 degrees to the mast, the end was way high.
It has not been used in months, maybe closer to a year and needs lube.
I am hopeing to go to the boat, make the adjustment, use dri kote and lube the everything, sail track and all points of the rolloer and see if we can get it to work like it should.
Does any one have any experiance with roller booms?
Any advise?

My friend bought a 2003 C36 with an in boom furler. Initially he had pretty much the same problem as you described. The most significant issue was that when the boom is not 90 degrees to the mast the mainsail was quite difficult to raise or lower. Once he realized this and made adjustments the sail worked as intended.
He also used some lubricant on the leading edge which made the process all the easier. He now knows to make sure that the boom is 90 degrees to the mast before raising or lowering and he now loves it.
Good luck, :) hope things work out for you.

Well, hows this for a strange turn of events?
After the sea trail, and finding the main sail almost impossible to rasie and lower using the stoboom in boom furlin system, the seller of the boat just said he would go to catalina and replace the hole mess with a new stock Catalina boom and all its rigging.
I am very happy as I like the idea of the in boom, but this one did not work.
