Of those who have upgraded to the inner spring for the V-berth, how high is Catalina's inner spring mattress. I believe my stock mattress is 3". Have others gone with a 3rd party brand, if so how thick is it? Has anyone gone the Latex route?

The inner spring mattress supplied by Catalina on mine is about 6.5" thick. On my previous boat (C 270), I added a Tufted Topper and found that to be a good alternative and comfortable.

I got a price last year from Catalina on the mattresses and they doubled the price in a year or so, it is really pricey now.
I decided to get a 4" memory foam topper from Sam's Club and cut it to size. They admiral is now happy.

I also recently got an estimate from Catalina and was thrown aback by their cost. 3rd party venders were actually more expensive for a custom 6-7" inner spring. I will seriously consider the memory foam or make my own like a fellow member has outlined in the Upgrades section of this website.

You may want to check them out for the 36. Maybe the company would do a deal if there were several orders for the same mattress. Of course, they send you a template to make one to fit your boat, so the multiple discount may not work.

I can attest to the bargain Bedding mattress and its comfort. We bought one for our 1987 Mark I and had it delivered to our marina (save on shipping by having it NOT go to a residence). The cost was $450 or $550 with shipping included. It replaced all 3 pieces and the only thing I had to do was cut a board to fit the insert piece. It is a 6-7 inch inner spring mattress. It is lightweight and fit into the v-berth with out any problems. The sides are also beveled to match the hull shape.
They send you a measuring diagram/instructions and a big piece of cloth that you draw your measurements on. I thought that the 2 halves were mirror images , but they are slightly different in length and width, so you have to do each one separately. It took less than 3 weeks to get the mattress.
I believe that they also have the option of having the the 2 halves connected, but I choose to keep them separate. We don't use a mattress pad, but we may add one in the future to help make the 2 halves seem like one.
In the spring of 2007 they did not accept credit cards, but I sent them a check and they shipped the mattress.
The admirial and I are sleeping much better.
