It is a bit slow here on the new site. It could be that everyone is immersed in watching their stock porfolio shrivel, or folks are just sniffing around getting used to this new format but, there is not much activity here.
I know this site is a work in progress, one thing I do miss is the ability to see who is on line and go to their profile and find out a bit about them, where their home port is, boat name, year of boat and ocupation. Hopefuly this info will be added in the future.
I also must ask what I did to offend you, as I see I have been demoted from Skipper to Seaman. Did I fall asleep on watch, plug up the head or is it my snoring?

Steve, at least they didn't demote you to Junior. That was done to me, but I was then promoted to Seaman the next day. Perhaps your promotion to Skipper is right around the corner.

I am just concerned as to how this will look on my permanent record. This could be construed as defamition of character, if I had any character.

Allan and Steve,
Alex Lynch and I were pondering what the best titles might be for the new forum, and came up with Seaman, Petty Officer, and Captain. They have something to do with the number of posts, but I don't know the details. No offense is meant. If you have better ideas for the titles (limit of three, unfortunately), speak up!!!

Actually, we're not limited to 3 titles. As Tom says, your rank is determined by the number of posts you have made. It takes 30 posts to make Seaman, and 100 to make Captain.
At this point, everyone's a Seaman, except for Tom, Sean and I, who seem to have been assigned the title of Administrator.
We're open to ideas for titles and the post counts required to achieve them.
Alex.
I understand what you mean Steve. Being retired now I thought I would get a job as a Skipper as my rating was that of one as well. But now like you being only a Seaman we have to start swimming up stream again to reach our rank and file.
But it is all a good thing as there were a lot of hours and hard work put into the new web site and I thank all that helped to do this.

Only three possibilities? Well lets have some fun anyway.
1st is "Deck Ape", 2nd is "Naviguesser", and the top rank is "Cook", "Ships Cook" or "Cookie", etc. After all, the cook has the most important job on ANY boat.
I happen to occupy all three positions on Solla Sollew - plus a few others I dare not mention.

Tom, no offense was taken, only having a little fun with it. I do however like some of the alternatives suggested.

Hey Tom it has been awhile since I have been on the forums. It was mentioned in another post but if I'm correct we now have three sites that still contain good information and was wondering if you and Alex plan on combining the old and very old site data and roll it forward. Hope your well.

I could use a little tutoring regarding navagating this site.
On the old site we had the ability to show our boat serial number and boat name on our forum posts. This was handy in understanding the topic being discussed by the poster. I have logged back into my account profile and do not see where we would put this info. Is there the ability to do this on this site? If so how?

You need to set up a signature in your profile on the forum site, changing on the main portion of the site doesn't seem to do anything for this part.
Go to quick links then select edit signature. I don't have the ability to add a picture to my signature, looks like it's blocked. Hope this helps, tutoring is not one of my better qualities if I even have any.

Lets test it. I thought signature was for an actual signature, dooo.
If this works we know you are a tutor, if so are you a member of Algebra, do you carry WMI's weapons of math instruction.
It did not work, that I see, you loose your Tutor status, I am still just a seaman.

Did you go to quick links, then control panel then edit signature? All these are on the top of this page (close to it). You also then need to go to edit options and check where it asks about signature in threads.
I am confident a man of your stature will succeed, you only need to "endevour to persevere". Kudos if you can tell em where that line was from?

Mark,
To the best of my knowledge, the content from the oldest site, and the older site, has all been moved to this newer site. A couple of officers (including myself) spent a bunch of time in the spring moving and copying articles from the old sites to the new one. A couple of features have not yet been moved. We are in the process of archiving the old forums to be searchable on this one. Take a look around the new site. It has a LOT of info!

No I went to the profile section on the opening page, it did get me to a signature page, but I failed. I have followed your path and will see if it works here.
Thank you

Allan,
Alex has changed the signature permissions for all registered users. We should now have the ability to include a picture along with our signature. I've attached one from the "Unfortunate Archives" in the Test Member account. Ouch!

It works, thanks :)

Ok, but... Why am I seeing "I lost 12 lbs in 12 weeks...READ NOW" garbage at the top of our web site? Must we have that junk on the page? I think we can eliminate the tacky advertising and limit the site to C-36 related items only.

I think this is the price of our new site. If we can keep the Viagra salesmen off of our forums I can ignore the tags at the top of the page.

Is there anyway to at least make the ads sailing related?

Well, maybe I am missing the benifit here, this is becoming a one stop shop. I no longer need to go to several sites, I can get prescription drugs and now a variety of porn right here on the C36 site.
What is up with these people being able to post on this forum. I like an open forum but this is problem we never saw on our old site. Our new format looks identical to the Honda Ridgeline owners group that I visit occasionaly, they do not have this issue.

Steve,
Alex is in the process of "tweaking" this new forum site. The goal is to have the forum open to everyone (not just C36IA members), yet not have it filled with spam. It seems like we need a little tightening to the current settings. As soon as I see spam on the site, it gets deleted, and the poster is permanently banned, but I'm not on the site 24/7. Please be a little patient.

Tom, is there a way that we could report a post that flags for someone to look at on your end?
Allan Rex
# 2216
Tom, how about allowing the members to act as vigalanties ( We don't need no stinkin badges!).
This may be to complex and could allow someone to really mess up the site. Though you may be able to deputise some of the regulars and if they see obvious commercial posts they would be authorized to delete them.

Steve and Allan (and everyone else),
Please feel free to send me an email any time you see a spam posting. I normally check email several times a day, but don't get to the forums as often. You can reach me at:
tjsoko (at) aol.com
I deleted two today, and Alex said he tweaked the site a little tighter, so we'll see how it works.

If you look inthe upper right corner of each posting you'll see a tiny "caution sign with an exclamation point". This is the Report post icon. I used this to report a spam post, but I don't know whether anyone got it. Tom? Alex?

Larry,
You are a brilliant person! I had not noticed the (!) icon. Please use it. I sent a test message on it, and it said that the report went both to Alex and myself. I'll start a new thread to bring it to everyone's attention. Thanks again.

A real test
Yes, there is a block called "Who's Online" block in Drupal core that can be enabled. This displays only registered users and you can click on any name to see the users' profile. This profile can be a Public profile that user has created. This block can be displayed to registered users only - that is a visitor can not see this block. Or it can be setup so that if the block is visible, the visitor can not click on the user name and view the profile.
