Acck! Phhht! What WERE they thinking?

I am trying to sort the rat's nest on my new to me 1995 Catalina 36 MkII.  (No cables are labeled, yellow/black used for both POS and NEG, and almost everything is in non-fire rated black sleeving with electrical tape on each end.  This is supposed to be the work of a certified marine electrician...)

There are a couple of cables running through a glassed in conduit from the battery box under the aft single seat on the starboard side to the bilge.  How is the M35(A) engine wired?  On my previous 1985 Catalina 30 there were just two wires from the start bank to the engine.  NEG went to the block, POS to the starter and alternator.  I hoped my current boat was the same, but after changing out the batteries it does not seem so.  Tracing is going to be difficult due to the lack of color adherence and the stupid sleeves.  Plus the boat's marine A/C is located under the transverse settee forward of the galley, so all the cables are covered and unreachable unless I pull the A/C out...  :(

All Insight is appreciated!

Thank You

Those wires could be a couple of things  Most likely they are the two wires that come out from conduit in front of the engine.  I think those are the main power wires to the engine.  Another possibility is that the wires cross to under the settee bench across from the batteries.  I have a battery charger inverter in there on my boat.  Originally it was the factory one but that one started cooking my batteries so I got a nice new solid state charging system instead.
