Hey skippers, just wanted to share my experience in replacing my damaged Catalina 36 (Mk I, 1986) hull emblems. Seems Catalina Direct only sells them with a newer sans serif font which doesn't at all match the original italic script. Incidentally, if you search "Catalina emblem" on Google, you'll see an eerily similar script from the car of the same name built in the 1970's. Anyway, I decided to 3D print replacements for my broken emblems. See the attached photos (old broken emblem, raw glass-nylon-12 print, completed emblem). I used a 2D image to extrude the 3D version in Photoshop, applied epoxy over the nylon print to fill in the pores, then sprayed UV-resistant primer/paint for color after laser cutting a mask to get the two-tone. Finally, sealed the emblem with an automobile top coat. It's not perfect, but looks much better than the broken parts and should be very resistant to weather and UVlight. Let me know if you have questions. Who knows, maybe I'll sell some when I get my upgraded QIDI printer!
