Back in 2020 we changed out our anchor for a Rocna15 which has been an awesome anchor. However, prior to the Rocna our rode was all rope. We changed out the windlass for one with a chain and a rope gypsy. Our rode is now 90' of chain and 170' of 3 strand which is held up out of the way since we rarely need it. The problem is twofold. 1) when pulling in the chain I have to kick the stack over a couple times or it will jam against the gypsy. When letting the anchor down the chain comes into the gypsy at varying angles and often slips off the gypsy. The problem is that the locker is two shallow to accommodate the chain well. I read an article in Cruising World where a fellow with a 45' boat had the same problem and solved it by feeding the chain through the anchor locker and into a lower, bigger compartment. Great solution, but not applicable to a Catalina 36...
Has anyone had this problem and solved it?
