We are the relatively new owners of a 2000 Catalina 36MKII (1904). While working on the boom, I lifted the boom about 25 degrees. The vang no longer stays in its original perpendicular position and it looks like the tubes are not properly aligned anymore. It can be lowered to its original position with about 150 pounds of weight but then bounces back up as soon as the pressure is released.
The vang appears to be original to the boat (configured consistent with the manuel). I can't locate any markings to identify manufacture and would love to try to replace it without having to retool all of the mast and boom attachments.
Does anyone know who made the fixed vang during this era and/or have experience replacing their fixed vang?
I have a 2005 with a fixed vang. Pretty sure Garhauer made it. The adjustment is made by rotating the tube.
