Tall Rig Main Size

Greetings,  I'm a new member as I'm in the process of purchasing a 2004 36 II tall rig with a in-mast furling main.  Today I did the sea trial with my surveyor and broker and when we deployed the main I was surprised to see that the sail head ended about 12-18'' below the mast head and the clew ended about 18" before the end of the boom.  The sail looked the original & had the Catalina logo & hull # on it but I thought it looked short. "<!--break-->" It was deployed all the way and I was told it was probably that way due to the furling main.  What has me scratching my head is that I have not seen this configuration in any photos of the boats at sail and I can't believe none of them have furling mains.  Any comments?

I can tell you from personal experience, when ordering a new sail unless the sail maker comes out and takes his own measurements, do all the measurements of your mast, boom and all other areas of the sail plan. Don't just order a sail for a C36 tall rig or standard rig because many of the measurements given for a sail plan are incorrect. In your case it sounds like your main may be for a standard rig.
