I have some evidence of slight leakage/corrosion on my HX endcaps so I want to remove them, clean and then install new gaskets...as well as clean any zinc pencil debris out of the unit.
My question is- when I remove the endcaps, does this also open up the anitfreeze coolent circuit, or just exposes the sea water cooling circuit? Hopefully just the later.
Also- from the list of maintenance items in the forum it appears that each endcap has a gasket and o-ring. Is the o-ring for sealing the encap assemby bolt or is it mounted in end of the heatexchanger body? Just trying to get an idea of the assembly.
Thanks

Paul,
Removing the end caps of the HX will not effect the coolant, only the sea water side of the cooling system. The o-ring is for sealing the end cap bolt, but off the top of my head I can't remember the order to assemble the end cap, gasket, o-ring, and bolt. Someone else will have to chime in on that part.
