Quick roller furling main tip

Recently started having some jams when trying to unfurl my main. To clear it I wood lock the out haul and then tighten the furling line. This essentially tightened the furl and out it came.

On reflecting on what I had changed recently, the fact that I had been leaving the out haul slack came to mind. The reason that I started leaving the out haul slack is that it would get stuck in the overhead hatch in the main salon and would cause it to leak.

So I started storing with the outhaul tensioned and walla easy deployment with no jams. By leaving no tension the sail was unfurling and caused folds which, of course cause jams.

Other tips are to release the vang, Mainsheet and make sure the topping lift is not too high for deployment and furling as this lets the boom align properly as the sail is deployed or furled. I feel that this is where folks have the most trouble.
