A year or so ago there was a thread that included a great checklist for looking over Catalina 36s before having a formal survey. I have tried the search function but nothing shows up. Anyone who is better at searching the archives I'd appreciate the help. We sold our Catalina 30 this week and we are now looking seriously at a couple of 36s.
I don't seem to be able to get my profile signature to link with my post.

I searched both here and the main site and found nothing matching for both "survey" and "checklist". There's some known issues with 36s, depends on what you're looking for as well, some things common across all models and some Mk I or II exclusively. But mostly it's the same stuff you'd check on any cored deck fiberglass boat.
Based on personal experience, I would highly recommend checking the bulkheads the top chainplates are attached to for rot behind the chainplate and at the bottom of the bulkhead. Even if the deck tests dry these can still be a problem. That was missed on our boat but was easily fixed. It's not a show stopper but it should be checked as it costs $$$ to fix it if it's bad enough. And naturally the "smile" which you will no doubt already be aware of.
For the signature, go to UserCP at the top left of the page, then "Edit Signature". Put your desired signature in the box there. That should work. I said "should" because these strange electric boxes we communicate through have magic juju in them and often do odd things that no human being can figure out.
tomf,
May not be the one you remember seeing here, but try this:
