We sail a catalina 30 at present but we are looking for a 36. The answer to this question may be obvious to someone who owns a 36 but I am curious why the aft cabin and head doors open outwards but the forward cabin hinge swings it into the cabin. It looks to me that with the insert in place in the vberth it must be a difficult to stand in the forward cabin and open that door to leave the cabin. Why isnt the forward cabin door set up to open out into the main salon?

TOMFOOLERY, I too have pondered why Catalina designed the configuration of the three doors on the Catalina 36. I have come to the conclusion that it is laid out that way because it is the most logical. If you are sleeping in the v berth and have another couple onboard with you you need privacy to use the head. So, you can close the door to the v berth and lock it if neccessary.

I believe if the V-berth door opened outward and the Head door was open they would hit together in heavy seas if they were not secured properly.
