I have been having a problem with the foward hatch leaking and the 10" x 10" starboard hatch across from the head leaking.
I have purchased buty tape and I want to try re-beding them to stop the leaks.
Has anyone removed theirs and successfully re-bedded them? And what do the wood screws screw into?. I removed a few of them this Saturday and tried to see what is under them, but I could not tell. I used a piece of thin wire to probe the holes, but couldn't tell anything.

I haven't yet but I too bought butyl tape to repair a leaking forward hatch on our 1999.
We just had vee berth cushions recovered due to prolonged water stains. Fixing this one is high on the 'before-launch' list

Peter-
I had some leaky hatches on our C30. I think the istallation is similar on the C36. Removed the inside trim ring, open the hatch and remove the screws from the frame. Slip a putty knife under the frame and insert as far as you can. Do this in several places around the frame. A second pair of hands is nice to have on the inside of the cabin- they can be pushing the frame up; rock it back an forth from one side to the other to break the seal. Remove the old butyl tape with scraper and acetone. While you've got the hatch out- check the cabin roof laminate for water migration or large voids. If you see this, let it dry and then seal the laminate with epoxy prior to reinstalling the hatch. You'll probably see a plywood core in the cabin roof. I had some large/deep voids in the plywood on our C30; some frame screws had nothing to screw into becuase of voids or water migrating and softening the plywood- hence a reason for leaks.

Be sure to check for the following problem before you rebed your forward hatch:

Hi Joel, and thanks for posting the pics. I will try your suggestion before removing the hatch

Great suggestion Joel. I had a leak from the hinge rivets too on the forward hatch. In fact, my rivets snapped and I had to replace them with stainless screws after threading the holes.
