I am changing my trans fluid on my 1994 Cat36 with a 30hp M35 engine. My memory is failing. Do you fill with fluid to the ring on the dip stick when the stick is screwed down or before it is screwed in. Thanks for the help.

Richard - before it is screwed in. A tip I picked up here or the C34 list was to get some dowel stock, cut it to about 8" pieces and mark an equivalent length to the metal dipstick. It's a lot easier to see ATF on the dowel compared to the metal stick.

Craig, I'd forgotten that good one. The other is to use a paper towel with the dipstick: insert, remove, roll on a paper towel to see the level. Just in case you don't have any handy dowels running around on yoru boat!

Gentlemen'
Thanks for the feed back and simple, but brillant ideas. Shining a flashlight on the dip stick is very hard to read.
