You can calibrate the tach using a $10 optical tachometer available on eBay. From my experience, the engine tachometer is linear throughout it's range, so you can calibrate at idle and then "check" at cruise RPM. Needless to say, be very careful around a running engine.
Low SOG for a given RPM and high temps might be indicative of an issue beyond tach calibration. I'd suggest checking the voltage output of the system to make sure it's within reasonable. If you see something higher 14.5 volts, consider that regulation is not happening they way it should.

Was actually high SOG for given rpm. Thanks for the info. Calibrated tach and added coolant to the resivour. It was leaking at the hose where it connects to engine. Added a hose clamp, and good to go.
