Starter Recommendation?

I have determined that my starter is bad. For those of you that have replaced your starter, do you have a recommendation? Any particular ones I should avoid?

TIA,
Jeff

I bought a Bosch off of eBay earlier this year.  I got the opportunity to install it while sailing the San Juan’s.  Took about 35 minutes while my friend was tacking and jibing thru a fairly narrow passage saying —- you should come up here and see the scenery. It has started the boat without fail once I replaced the cable between the battery switch and starter.

Thanks. Wind Ensemble is tied to the dock, so no scenery is passing us by. We look forward to getting back out there, though.

My problem turned out to be a intermittent (then failed)  bad cable between starter and switch.  Before that it was the fuse holder, bad push terminal at solonoid. I replaced fuse holder, terminal, battery, starter and finally upsized and replaced cable.  To avoid future problems I completely rewired from engine to engine panel, new wire, new gauges, new panel, new senders, new switches, new connectors, new led’s.....  only thing origional is glowplug relay, and alarm horn.   Just took rewired panel to the boat today - only issue was had to turn one led around in the socket.  Still need to calibrate the tach and tie it all up.   Big job.

Agree. Big job. We rewired ALL of the heavy gauge wiring a couple of years ago and quite a bit of the smaller gauge wiring (lights, fans, water pump, shower sump pump, bilge pump). At some point I will get around to the panel wiring. Thankfully, the "trailer" connector is already dealt with.

I verified that the starter was bad by bench testing it off the boat. Doesn't mean there aren't cabling issues as well. We shall see.

I too have had cable issues and mistaken it for a bad starter- on two boats (Cape Dory & Catalina)- both with the engine ground terminals. Cable looked fine from the outside but were totally corroded inside the crimp connector. Good thing to check
