Standing Saltwater

We have a 1985 C36 MKI. There is an void area under the aft berth, just aft of the midships water tank under the small access cover (photos attached). I keep finding water trapped in the area (no drainage). This weekend I found it had been in there so long that salt crystals had formed. Has anyone seen this before? Any thoughs on where the saltwater would be coming from? I can not see any evidence if water running down the aft lazerate into that area.

The rudder post has a packing that is sandwiched between two castings below the quadrant. Torque the bolts and the packing exerts more pressure on the rudder post to improve the sealing qualities. It its old, it may need to be replaced.

A small amount of water leaks in through the emergency tiller plate, and in our boat through another cover plate mounted in the stern. While I have sealed both of those up, I also dried that triangular spot out, as well as another further back behind the rudder post, and fill them with expanding foam which I then sawed flat. Some waterproof paint over top made sure that any water leaking in makes its way all the way down to the main building.

Rudder post is most likely, but if you've bumped the rudder while in reverse it can damage the FG in that area and cause a leak.

Thanks for all the info/suggestions! Will check them all out when we go to the boat this weekend.
