Stainless Tube Life Lines

We added some additional stainless tubing between the pushpit and the midship gate. This gives you a good strong handhold as you enter/exit the cockpit.

Here are some pictures from our sail today.

I'd be interested in hearing any details you can provide on this. Did you have a railing specialist like Railmakers do it? Cost, Etc... BTW, the gate on my '91 is much wider than yours. Is this just the way the MK IIs are?

Thanks, Mike

The rails were welded in by one of the local stainless steel fabricators.
You cannot see where he joined it onto the factory stainless pushpit, as the welds were polished.

The job was not just adding the top tube, but he also had to cut and weld in the upright on the existing tubing.

All the work was done while the boat was on the water (in its pen).
It cost me $400 to have these added. We think this was worth it. it just gives you something solid to hold onto when entering and exiting the cockpit.

Our boat is a C375, so I am not sure how it compares to the 36 (we have 309, 320, 35, 375, 40, 42 and 445 here - but no 36's).

The boat was used at the recent Sydney Boat show, and a few people commented on the extended rails, which the dealer had to explain were not standard.

The next modification will be a proper gate (for both the sides and the rear).

Thanks for the info. Oops, I didn't notice yours is a 375. I've liked that idea ever since Caliber Yachts started doing it. Not only a good hand hold, but it gives you more space for BBQs, etc. Seems worth it to me, and perfect timing. I'm about to redo my lifelines.

My father replaced all the lifelines on his boat with stainless tube. He cut them to size and prepared them for the welder. The welder did the welding, and dad ground and polished the welds. As labour costs are the largest component, it was pretty cheap (from memory).
