Hello,
I’m new to the Catalina 36 forum and we are in the process to of purchasing a 2002 Mk2.
After the purchase I’ll be moving the boat from its current location in salt water to near our home in fresh water. During the short haul for survey we are considering changing the anodes from zink to aluminum and I’m also considering the installation of a prop shaft line cutter.
The boat has a 3 bladed Max prop and I’m looking for information in regards to how much space may be available between the prop and the strut. I understand that there is probably some variation but I only need about .720 clearance. Anybody done this or have some guidance? A photo showing of a 3 bladed Max prop on a 36 Mk2 would be a bonus.

By the way, I installed one of these 2 seasons ago. It's a very reasonably priced combination anode/line cutter. I don't think I have fouled any lines since I've had it, so I can't attest to its performance in that regard. But I believe it would do a good job. It is extremely sharp.

Exactly where on the shaft did you locate your line-cutter zink ?? Is it just next to the prop ??

I actually have two anodes on the shaft. I have this line cutter anode between the prop and the shaft strut. It's tight but it fits fine, and you want the line cutter close to the prop. I have a regular magnesium anode on the shaft just forward of the strut. I will snap a pic this weekend and post it.

I finally got a picture. The line cutter is between the strut and the prop. I have another magnesium anode upstream on the shaft, which probably needs to be replaced.

Hope you have lots of fun with your new C36.
Let me say this, as having passed the etremely difficult ABYC corossion certification examination, I don't recommend using an aluminum anode if your boat is going to be in true fresh water. I would go with magnesium. An aluminum anode may simply go to sleep in fresh water and not protect your under water metals. .
