Replacing line for mainsheet traveler

I want to change the line that controls the garhauer mainsheet traveler on my 1995 c36 mk II. The line is attached to the traveler by inserting it into a hole and then tightening a set screw. The old line has a metal fitting crimped onto the end to create a solid surface for the set screw. I have searched the marine store of Annapolis in vain to find the metal fitting. Any suggestions?

Thank you for the suggestion of calling Garhauer. What I learned was that this design is "obsolete" and that they no longer carry the part. What he suggested was "You can drill and tap for an eye as shown in the picture or attach the line to the eye that the mainsheet block is attached to." I can't imagine tying a line to an eye that looks like this or even drilling an tapping the traveler car. So, I will try to fashion something that is more like the original aluminum collar or have them made. I guess what make the most sense is to reinstall the original lines and wait for one to break.

That's the exact eye strap that is on my '97 traveler. I replaced my control lines last spring with no difficulty. The car is different, it has a single attachment for the mainsheet blocks; don't have a pic handy.

What Pat said. Did ours last summer and working fine so far. Usually saying that guarantees it will fail though, right?

So in line with that, has anyone replaced an early Mk II traveler with one of the newer style Garhauer ones? Just wondering about how the bolt holes would line up. It is very thick were the bolts go through the cabin top and I can't imagine having to drill new holes in there.

Dear Bud and Pat

Thank you for providing me with a "duh" moment. A simple, non-elegant solution that should work. And, no money spent!

Bud, why are you thinking of replacing the traveler?

Mostly for the reason that Garhauer no longer stocks parts for it but also the new ones look much stronger (and nicer looking but that's a side benefit only). I've never seen any sign that this one isn't up to the job but I'm concerned with a failure at a bad time. We're hoping to go south next fall so I'm trying to make the boat as bullet proof as I can, it would probably be a nightmare to get a traveler shipped to the Bahamas! Have heard/read some horror stories about trying to get parts sent there.
