We are trying to lighten our interior by resurfacing the table tops in white. The Main table and the side table were straight forward to do. Now we would like to do the Nav table and the counter forward by the head. I have looked at the Nav table and do not see a simple way to remove it. Has anyone done this before?

Alex,
I'm a new owner of an '85. The previous owner started the restoration and re-did all the surfaces in white. It looks great. But I'm quite sure he didn't remove the nav desk to do it though. Here's how it looked when I bought it in October (the panel's all torn out now while I rewire etc)

Here's a shot of the other surfaces. We talked about how he did the work, and it seemed quite clear that he did it all in place.

Thanks for sharing photos. Looks like removing fiddles may make it possible. It sure brightens up the interior.
Electrical... on my boat Catalina installed a 12ga main with a 30a breaker! The shorepower receptical had evidence of overload. I would strongly advise getting a Smart Plug much higher quality.

Both tops, the navigation table and the one up by the hanging locker come out / off. It makes the job a lot easier. You do have to remove the fiddles as well. Just drill out the plugs and then remove the screws, none of the trim work is glued so they pop off. To take the nav top out there are screws up inside the drawer unit
I can not remember though if you take the whole drawer unit out or not to access them. The same goes for the other top. I actually did the top for the nav station in teak plywood to make it a bit nicer.

The nav table does come off by screws up and under the top. I had to use a short Phillips driver with a socket. I never removed any drawers but it does require some feeling around for the heads of the screws.

My galley is white laminate, guess that was factory standard but both tables are an ugly fake teak laminate. Thanks for the idea as the white is really nice looking. Having recently relaminated the shelves in the head I now realize how easy it is to do (after you get the screws removed and can extract the shelf. Brightening up the cabin has been a consistent theme for me.
I recently converted some MR11 track spot lights to LED then added turn switches to the base to replace the old Catalina bullet lights (the ones with that ugly plastic tube shade). They swivel, only use 1 watt and have a nice white focused beam.

How about some pictures and part numbers on your track lite project?
Thanks
