I am trying to remove our old bronze/chrome plated deck plate, because the chrome is coming off. It is rather ugly and hot to step on. I have a new plastic deck plate that Catalina is now using. Problem I am having is getting the out ring out without damaging the ring or boat. Catalina has pretty much glued the outer ring to the boat with the sealant. My only solution would destroy the outer ring by cutting through the ring and slowly peeling the split ring up. I can get a pry bar under the whole ring now, but can not break the bond without risking damage to the deck.

I replaced mine years ago as it looked like yours. I used the exact replacement though, not plastic. Seems as I remember I used a heat gun on the outer ring. I have found that a thing to do in making the old bonding materials softer and more pliable when trying to remove bedded items.

I'd guess they used 3M 5200, rather than glassing it in with epoxy. If so, I've used Anti-Bond 2015 to remove 3M 4200 with great success and they say it works as well on 5200, if you have access to the sealant. Unfortunately, I've only found it sold through West Marine, so it costs a fortune: https://www.westmarine.com/buy/anti-bond--anti-bond-2015--P001174804?recordNum=2
The heat is a really good idea as well, but difficult to transmit enough heat to the sealant with a heat gun as the deck tends to cool it down.

Heat gun, good idea. I am sure Catalina used some generic sealant. 4200 or 5200 would be too expensive to use for a strictly sealing application.
I can not find an exact replacement and Catalina currently uses a plastic deck plate. It's available from Catalina Direct.
The advantage of the plastic deck plate is it opens easily, just one recessed lever, O-ring seal. The bronze/galvanized one can be hard to open, not good for an emergency access port.

Have you asked Catalina Direct what glue they used? CD is wonderful to deal with!

wonderful, wonderful, wonderful ! ! !. 5 th Catalina
Timely post. I just purchased a new Plastic deck plate to replace my old Plastic deck plate. After 22 years the plastic was ugly yellow and the little "tee" removal key has broken. Good tip about the Anti Bond and while expensive the $30.00 price will be well worth it if it is 5200.00

Your previous owner must have put in the plastic plate. Catalina did not use plastic deck plates here until sometime after 2002. I used a heat gun as suggested and made a jack screw to push up on the plate as I heated the plate. I kept extending the bolt to push up on the plate. Not sure what Catalina used for chalking. I used Butyl tape on the new plate.
