Remove Aqua-lift Muffler Glassed to Platform

I am looking for some tips on how to remove my Aqua-lift Muffler that is glassed to the platform.

I think it's time to replace the Aqua-lift muffler on my MK1 1985 C36, Hull 397, M-25 engine.

As noted above, the muffler is glassed to the platform. Or maybe it is fastened with 5200.

So far I have not been able to find on the forums tips on how to remove a muffler secured to the boat in this manner. I have seen the posts where the muffler is screwed to the platform.

I do plan on removing the bulkhead from the galley to get better access.
I have Dremel tools and expect to use them to cut through the glass or 5200 securing the muffler to the platform.
I plan to get the replacement muffler through Catalina Direct.

Attached are two pictures.

The glass work is on the inboard and outboard sides of the longitudinals that the platform and muffler rest on.

I have a water leak of about 1/2 gallon per hour when the engine is running from under the muffler that drains to the bilge in the main cabin. I have been living with this for a couple of seasons. Now I am also starting to get soot streaks on the corner nearest the inlet. For these reasons I am thinking I need to replace the muffler in the upcoming off season. So far I am not smelling any fumes. I have CO detectors and I have no issues with them going off.

I have seen a number of posts on replacing the muffler on the MK2s. Not so much on the MK1. Any other tips or words of advice are greatly appreciated.

Jon, you most likely do not need to remove your water muffler. As the streaks are coming from the top, the suspect area is the connection where the top of the tank meets the neck or the flexible connector. Use acetone to clean and wire brush the streaks, the neck, and the top of the tank. This will help you find where the cracks are. I taped off about a half inch diameter on the top of the tank where the neck comes into the tank, lifted the flexible connector as high as I could, and painted the suspect areas with JB weld high temperature plastic.  My repair has held.

look up my previous post on this topic that has pictures.
