Refrigerator lid replacement/upgrade

We have an 89 MK1 with the horrible center hinged lid and plastic covered ?insulation?.  Our current lid is warped and does not seal allowing a lot of airflow into the frig.  I would like to upgrade it to a single lid hinged to the rear with a perimeter seal.  Thinking of working with Starboard and was wondering if anyone had worked with that product or done a similar project.  I want to encapsulate 2 to 3 inches of foam insulation in the lid as well. Maybe sandwiching the foam between layers of the Starboard so gluing or screws or both would be needed.

I did something very similar to what you want to do. I redid our whole galley top with corian. In the process I redid the inside of our fridge. Added a 2 inch divider between fridge and freezer. In the divider I added a 2 inch pc fan to  pull cold air over from the freezer side. The covers I made are flush but have the same design on the inside but with 3 inch foam and plastic . It was a project but well worth it.

Randy - did you have someone make the counter for you or did you DIY?  The local Home Stores here won't sell me a small quantity.
I would love to see the pictures you have - and I can resize them if you want to post them to this thread.  How did you attach the insulation to the bottom of the new lid?  Sounds like your project is exactly what I want to do.  Thanks

No I did it myself. I had a friend that was putting in granite countertops. The had huge  pieces of corian and asked if I wanted them. I took them smiling as I left. It is hard to buy if your not a builder. When we had Dorian countertops installed I was able to get the glue they use to join sections. I watched how the installers installed it. Very simple. I have tried to send picture to many that have replied privately but this web site only allows 25 mb to be sent. If you would pm me with a regular email address in have many picture's I took of the project.
