Pulling mast and rigging for the first time

I don't post on here too often, though I am the original owner of my 1999 C36. I have always stored it for winter outside, with the mast up and shrink wrapped. While I have gone up the mast to check the rigging, I have never pulled the mast. Since I am in fresh water, it has not been much of an issue. This year, I am storing inside for several reasons. Mainly, I need to get the wind instrument repaired. I pulled the mast every year on my previous C30, but suspect this will be much different with the keel stepped mast.

I used Spartite to support the mast at the partners. I was careful to spread Vaseline on the outside of the hole, but it has been over 10 years ago. Any special advice on pulling a mast with Spartite?

What is the best way to mark the turnbuckles to keep the same standing rigging tune? Some people have said to mark the threads with a permanent marker and others have suggested loosening the turnbuckles a specific number of turns and marking down each setting. Any special tricks? I have the mast tuned exactly the way I like it now and would hate to go through all that again.

Wrap electrical tape around the thread as a marker before you slacken the turnbuckle. That way when you reassemble you thread the turnbuckle to the tape marker.

Found this old thread on a search - Gene, how did pulling your mast with Spartite work for you?  Any problem with the re-installation in the Spring?

It went easier than expected for me.   I had followed the Spartite directions and put a layer of Vaseline on the outside of the mast partner and the Spartite came right out with the mast.  It went back in just as easily.

Gene - I noticed you have 1786. And I have 1787.
Have you ever replaced the rigging? If so when did you replace them. What was the cost?
Did you pull the mast when you did that?

Regarding the wind instrument - Mine was stuck or frozen. I purcased a new one. But - it turned out that the original one only needed lubrication. I now have the original one in good working shape after lubrication.
If you decide you need it replaced - PM me, I will offer it to you. The replacement ones area t about $ 300.00.
Haro.

No, the rigging is original.  I am in fresh water and the rigging has been checked, but is fine.  It is not common here on Lake Erie for boats to need new rigging until much older.  Thanks for the offer on the instruments.   I'll see if mine work this Spring.
