Portside cabin lights

Hi, The portside cabin lights in my 1983 C36 are no longer getting power. The starboard lights work fine. I have no wiring diagram. I can follow the pair of black and dark blue wires that powers all cabin lights. It generally runs along the edge where the deck and hull meet. But even after removing all drawers and covers I can't find where the lines cross from starboard to port. Does anyone know where they cross?

There should be a wiring diagram in the manual. Can't tell if you are a MKl or MKll from your description. Believe both models the wires cross up in the bow. There is a manual for each model in the technical section under the Members header. The schematic shows the line crossing  at the bow and my experience has proved the same it is up in the anchor well with access through a small access plate.
The manuals are available to members and if you wish to join I can assist.

For your use with your 1983 model, I will attach a schematic from my owner's manual for my 1986 C36 MK1.

This site is a tremendous resource for C36 owners like yourself.

You may want to include the particulars about your C36 in your profile and siganiture to help others guide you in the future.

Welcome aboard!

This schematic reinforces what Gary said about the wires crossing near the anchor locker:

Gosh. My Catalina must be special. Turns out the cabin light wire stream runs through the stern, not the bow. At least there is some slack in the stern wiring. Everything running through the cabin is screwed up taut. Back in business now. When I add lights I will be sure to leave some slack to work with later on.

Here's a quick follow-up. All cabin lights are working now. I also had to replace the forward running light. The wires run from the starboard side switch at the nav station, around the stern, and up the entire port side to the bow. The black negative wire is shared by cabin and running lights. Wire ends were corroded at the light. Since there was not even a centimeter of slack I reran wires from anchor locker up through bow pulpit.

Good morning
Brand new to the forum and having this very same problem of no port side house lights in my 1998 Catalina 36 Mk II. I also tried tracing the wires from the electrical panel, however they ran through a bundle which I lost track of once it went down from the nav station panel. Any hints on where yours ran through the stern? Did it go through the aft bulkhead or across the engine area? I too am going nuts trying to figure it out.

Edit - just signed up for membership, so I'm scouring the user's manual searching for hints on wiring.

Go to Amazon and search for wire tone trace.  You should get a big selection.  Clip the tone to the wire you want to trace and use the hound (wand) to follow it.  You can hear the wire from about 2 feet away - louder as you get closer. Works great. There are some there for under $20
