Hi,
On our 375 the instructions for the mainsheet furling line says it is to be end for end spliced. I do not think the guy doing the pre-delivery work knew how to do this, as on the last two, all he has done is heated the ends up, pushed them together and then done a few stitches with some whipping twine. I know this is not strong enough, as it broke within a few weeks of being done. The dealer now tells me that this method is ok, and has been approved by the Catalina VP of engineering.
My question is, has anybody else had this issue, and what do they have on their boats?
Thanks
Simon

Our 375 (and previous 320), the endless line came already done. Selden has a manual which shows how it's supposed to be done. It is a bit more than just sticking the two ends together. Pdf file is attached.

Thanks for the info. It requires a constant diameter splice, so that it can go through the main sail furling mechanism (I don't want it jamming at the wrong time). I have attached a picture of the join that the Australian agent believes is sufficient. We know it is not sufficient, as the other join like this failed within a month of delivery (within 20 uses of the furler!).
I am told it will be repaired shortly - time will tell.
