LPG light for stove

The little red led for the lpg solenoid quit so i bought a new one from Catalina direct.Problem is the old switch is integral with the led..so i thought i would solder the new led across the leads of the switch so when the switch is on the new led comes on..strangely tho,the switch leads are "hot"when in the "off"position and the center lead is dead when in the "on" position..Any ideas?

Greig, the red light should light whenever voltage is applied to the propane solenoid. Therefore, one lead of the LED lamp needs to attach to the same terminal of the switch that takes the voltage to the solenoid, and the other lead of the LED goes to ground. The solenoid is a normally closed valve; it only opens when voltage is applied.

You can purchase a red 12V LED from Radio Shack for a couple bucks and mount it nearby the switch. Just drill a small hole in the panel and RTV it in place.

It worked out as you suggested Larry, thanks
On a side note, when i called Seaward for an led switch, they informed me those rocker switches havnt been used for more than 10 yrs and that i should upgrade my ac/dc panel, reason being the rockers handle about 6 amps max and the upgrade panel has better switches(no doubt)..the cheapest panel upgrade tho is $522..so not right now

Yes - Just need to replace the LED. You must also add a series resistor to the LED of about 300 Ohms 1/2 Watts. You must also observe polarity otherwise it will not light up. The LED has a flat side. This is the negative or the cathode side.

I did exactly what Larry said but you can buy a 12 volt LED that does'nt need a resistor.
I put it in same hole as original on my MK11 with some silastic
