I have purchased a new engine from Catalina yachts this summer and am trying to find a successful way of removing the old one with minimal help. I was contemplating using the boom for this adventure but thought it best to see if this has been attempted by someone else before. Has anyone tried this? If so what needs to be done to support the weight of the M25 and transmission? Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome and most appreciated. Just for reference my boat is currently on the hard so its a long way to the ground!

Larry,
That is how I installed my engine, make sure to put a stout halyard at the end of the boom or near the point you attach the engine sling to. I took my vang off of the the boom to mast and used that as a block and tackle to hoist the engine from the dock to the companionway. Doing it on the hard will add some excitement above just dropping the new engine in the drink.
