Engine doghouse soundproofing vs heat buildup

I've read postings about soundproofing foam, like Soundown, on the engine doghouse. My question is, does this create any temperature issues, in particular, overheated alternator. Previously, I added a second blower to blow outside air into the dogouse in the directon of the alternator. I'd like to hear back from those who used Soundown or a similar product to see if they ever saw any overheating issues.

Bill;
 I added sound proofing to my engine compartment a number of years ago and although it quieted the sound, it added considertable weight (20 lbs) to the 'dog-house' engine cover. This is a real problem requiring Hurculian strength when you wish to check the oil level before starting the engine. Not saying you shouldn't do it......just saying just consider the weight of the material you're adding. We used a product that came in one foot squares with an adhesive back and the squares were and simple to install. Just make sure you clean the surface you are going to attach to as the adhesive in this product does not like oil on the surface. We also placed a few stainless staples in it to assure it would not loosen up.
I'll see if I can find the name of the product but I know there are a few You-Tube videos on the subject. Never did see any rise in temperature inside the engine box.
Are you in the Atlantic Highlands ??

I'm with Bill on this... I used the same product and it does add weight. I also have not noticed a heat problem. I did add the insulation around the opening around the access to the shaft in the aft compartment to deaden sound/vibrations coming up into the cockpit.

Bill,
Chuck probably remembers that I spend my summers in Rumson (my home town) and winters here in Boca Grande, FL. on Charlotte Harbor.
Next time I'm in town I'll buy you both an adult beverage at AHYC ! The 'Catboat Willy' handle comes from owning a catboat over at SSYC for 37 years !

Has anyone tried the Dynamat products for this application? http://www.dynamat.com/automotive-and-transportation/automotive-restoration/hoodliner/

David;
 No, I have not tried Dynamat sound proofing but which ever manufactuer you choose,  just make sure that the material will stand up to diesel fuel/smoke as many materials will disintegrate. I used a product sold by 'cruising solutions inc.' and I see they no longer carry it. Use aluminum airconditioning tape to bind the seams. Our past Commadore, Laura Olson over on the Facebook C-36 page just replaced hers. You might 'personal message' her for suggestions.......Bill

We used the same product as Catboat Willy did, and can confirm it makes the engine cover a lot heavier -- though still manageable.  I did find that in some places the adhesive has failed over time (mostly in the box around the exhaust riser), apparently it can't take really high heat.   It did improve the noise situation, although not as much as I would have wanted.   I run the blower on any trip involving significant motoring (or at least I try to remember to).
