I've been offered a slip in a place I desire to dock that boat but there's a catch: the slip is 11' 9" wide.
Does anyone know what the beam of a c36 mk1 is at the waterline? I presume that the entire beam isn't carried that low and that the boat may actually fit in this slip.
The harbormaster has offered to help try it and see if it's possible (and prevent scuffs while doings so), but I'm curious if anyone else out there has experience with this.

Hi Dan,
As I'm sure you know the beam of the Mk 1 is 11' 11" . . . in Santa Barbara the slips are 12' wide and it's pretty tight. No doubt there are several inches less at the waterline, but the dock pilings or neighbor's boat (if there is one) will encroach on your rubrail if the water space of the slip is too narrow. I guess you'll find out soon!

Capt Nick,
Good news. I fit into the slip with inches to spare on each side. This week I'm going to work out some chafe protection once I'm moved in (boat is currently hauled for bottom paint). I'll probably head to the local chandlery for a supply of small or foam fenders and rig a few of them together on each side at the widest section of the beam.
The slip has a dock finger on each side, so I'm not interfering with other boats or hard objects at the deck or rubrail.
Harbormaster has also offered a wider slip when one becomes available. Given the other specifics of this location I'm willing to polish the dock-rash off regularly and feel like a winner.

Nice! I don't know what the wind is like in your spot but if your hull is going to rub hard against the fenders, with the fenders on the dock, you might give thought to the fancy-schmancy fender covers.
I recently spent four nights at Ventura Harbor making repairs and was pinned on a long dock with 15-kt perpendicular winds . . . my fender rubbed through the paint pretty bad.
