Diesel in the Bilge

I am the proud new owner of at Cat 36. Unfortunately, she has diesel fuel fouled water in the bilge. I've pumped out all I can into a can for proper disposal, but am left with a slimy mass of diesel to be dealt with. Has anyone successfully removed such? I've thought of cat litter. I've also heard of a product called Oil Dry. Any experiential input would be very much appreciated.

A product designed for oil absorbtion/spills is called "New Pig". It is designed specifically for the job. If there's water in the bilge, pump out as much as you can before you use the pads. They are available from most industrial distributors- Grainger, MSC, McMaster Car, Amazon etc. Unlike kitty litter- the pads are self contained and easy to remove after they do the job. Disposal is the issue. I would start by asking your boatyard or marina for suggestions. The gas docks have these products near the pumps and they typically have local removal services.

When I drain my water seperator to change diesel filters, I pour the collected fuel into another container to seperate it from water, then filter through a paper towel if needed, and burn it in my oil furnace. If you heat with oil, I'm sure your fuel supplier could help you with disposal of the saturated pads.

I had that problem once and used my electric oil change pump to suck out all the fluid, then just scrubbed with orange cleaner
