Companionway "Glide Strips" No Screech MK 1 only

Just stocked up on 20 sets of Companionway Screech preventers.  I want to bring you up to date on this product. Up until now I believed these worked on both the Mk I and Mk II. They do not work on the MkII!! I thought the hatch was changed partly through production but apparently not. All Mk ll have a different sliding hatch that is similar to much later Catalina models.

I opened up the companion hatch, after listening too many times to the screeching, on my 36 MK1 and dripped wax from a candle I had going at the time. I applied to both sides where the foot of the hatch rub....No more screech!

That’s creative and a short term solution. But here’s something to think about, while wax can lubricate. It remain sticky and grit, grime and dirt will stick to it eventually making a big mess to
try and clean out. Let me know if I can help

I tried to glue Marks strips on the top rail of my 2000 MK2.   Any glue suggestions would be appreciated.

We used some dabs of butyl tape to keep them in place.  Works well.

I tried the buty dots.  Didnt last, looked ugly as the strips are translucent.  Anyone try 3M5200?

Do you have a dodger or is your hatch exposed?  You can try the double sided foam tape from 3m that is white.  But if the channel is exposed to the weather and  it gets wet and is a challenge.  I really avoid 3m 5200 because its so permanent.  If you decide to try it sand and scuff the strip so the caulk has something to grab on to.  HDPE plastic is almost as slippery as Silicon.  You can also use a small shoulder or pan screw with washer on the very end.  Make sure you pre-drill adequate hole first to avoid cracking the Gel coat.
