Has anyone installed the after rail with seats from Catalina Direct for their MK1? As far as layout goes are they equal to the arrangement on the newer C 36's?
No they are not exactly the same I installed them and like them but they slant a bit due the way the transom is on a mark I. My impression is that on a mark II they run out flat. The other thing that you should be aware of is that they may not match the layout, read hole in transom, as what you have now. All that said I do like them and I am glad I got them. By the way Catalina direct gets them from an outfit called railmakers if you want to deal directly with the mfg.
best of luck

My 1987 Catalina 36 was the boat Zarcor used to fit and measure their seats for the C36 MKI. They work great and after 10 years look like the day they were installed. I didn't install the cushions and they are plenty comfortable. The key is the ability to swing the seat up to access the stern locker. On an easy day I sit in the upwind stern perch and steer with my foot because it gives me a really good view of the sail shape.
It is also a good place to get boat potatoes out of the way of people willing to pull lines. Only problem is if you get a boat potato in each stern perch and they get deeply involved in an irrelevant non-sailing related conversation it can be a bit distracting for the captain. When that happens I just make a couple of hard tacks in a row. Usually works.

We've had that same "conversation" recently.
