Today I was investigating a cooling water leak and found this under the engine. I have no idea how long it’s been there or where it’s from.
It was under an oil absorb pad under the engine. Looking through the service and parts manual I didn’t find anything similar.
Any idea or suggestions on where it came from?
Thanks,
Ray

It doesn't look like a fastener that would be used for the engine or transmission. I've also not seen any fasteners like that in the lower part of the steering system. It's counter sunk so the head would be flushmount to the surface of where ever it came from. If I had to guess- maybe from the upper part of the pedestal? It looks like it could be used to hold an aluminum casting together. Might remove the compas and take a look down the tube for similar fasteners. Something loose in there could certainly make its way into the bilge .

Looks like something unrelated to the vessel, like from an electronic gizmo or a folding chair or something else. Could have worked its way into the bilge from many places.

Thank you both for the thoughful response and I agree it could be anything. It doesn't show well in the photos but the head of the screw is painted with the ice blue Universal paint color.
Thanks again,

Ray,
I had some weird bolts like that holding the heat exchanger to the back of the engine. Might want to check that as well as the transmission. But that certainly is a differnt looking bolt ! Let us know what you find. See if the hex wrench that fits the bolt is metric or SAE.

Check the motor mounts and supporting brackets...that looks like the fasteners for one of the foreword brackets, mine were not all completely tight - why it looks familiar to me.
A 6mm hex wrench fits well, but I was unable to find anything similar near the heat exchanger or transmission. I'll check the motor mounts in the morning.
Thanks again for the suggestons.

It is definitely the front motormount bracket bolts. I looked at them first hand today.
In the manual on page 3 the bracket and the mounting bolt is displayed as a hexhead item number 16.

Thank you all for your help. Yes indeed the front port side motor mount. It's back in place with a little blue loctite. I was able to get 1/8 turn on the other screw too.
Thanks again,

You stuck by the old adage that if something seems wrong/out of place, don't quit until you find the problem! Once I found this odd rusted fairly large bolt down under the foward part of the engine. I couldn't find anyplace where it might go, so convinced myself that it was an odd piece left over from when the boat was built and left it at that. Several years later I was having the shaft/transmission aligned and the mechanic asked me: "Did you know that one of bolts holding the shaft in is missing?"
