Seacock lubrication

I want to lubricate my seacocks while the boat is in the water.  I have the Marelube product with the syringe. I’m not at the boat now.  I live about 4 hours away.  Plan on doing it next time I’m down.  Question..what’s the best way to remove the hose from the barbed fitting.  Heat the hose?  Cut the hose? I think I have enough extra.  I cant remember if this hose is wire reinforced.  Is it? Then reattaching.  Same process? All advise appreciated.  Thanks, Bill

Hoses on my boat are fiber-reinforced.  I have found success with heating the area directly on top of the barb fitting with a small heat gun / hair dryer, then pulling immediately with a mechanic's glove, or even a sailing glove, on my hand.  Leather work gloves just slide on the hose, so you need to get something rubbarized.  I have never had to resort to cutting or even a radiator hose-puller, though I have thought about it.  Re-attaching is easy, and I usually do not have to heat it to put it on.  Do not be tempted to put lubricant between the hose and barb fitting to make "next time easier" -- just not worth the risk of losing the hose.

I've never tried to lubricate seacocks in the water, as we are out of the water annually.  As you are probably aware, you will not get any lubricant on the 'outboard' side of the ball as you cannot apply grease to the side of the ball facing the water when you close it.  You also cannot disassemble and lubricate the shaft.  It's a half job, at best.

I have a hose removal tool - really works well on sizes >1/2”.   Best thin was it was under $7.

amazon SG 13860 hose removal tool.  https://www.amazon.com/Tool-Aid-13860-Hose-Removal/dp/B002YKIZBA?keywords=hose+removal+tool+sg&qid=1537242439&sr=8-1&ref=mp_s_a_1_1

Thanks Les.  As I look at this tool could you describe in a thousand words or less how it works.  As you may guess I’m not the most mechanically inclined.  Thanks, Bill

You force the point between the barb and hose, then wiggle so the shank travels around the barb - loosening/breaking the hose feast from the barb. Then pull on the hose and the tool straight off the barb.
