Spinnaker pole storage

hi. New member and new to sailing also. Wondering if anybody could suggest good way to store a spinnaker pole. It is just laying on deck on starboard side tied to base of stantions. Thinking there has to be a better way. Don't race and scared to try using it on my own, the spinnaker looks brand new, so I end up just tripping over the pole on deck.

I don't have a pole on my boat - but the storage for it is vertical one end in a deck fitting just forward of the mast the other a ring on 1 1/4 " track going up the mast.   I've also seen lots clipped to the deck along the lifelines.

Our pole is attached to the front of the mast with a sliding car and a track. The hardware is made by Harkin. Check their web site.

If you are not going to use the pole, why not leave it home. One less thing to trip over.

I use 2 Stanchion mounts made by Forespar. Works OK.

As a past foredeck man with a misspent youth on a J 35 I got familiar with using poles on spinnakers and jibs. I recently got a "loan" with option to buy pole which I lay on the deck from inside the shrouds to the second stanchion. With a long padlock I secure it to the stanchion base and the end of the pole fitting.
Recently  we had a good wind, going straight toward Hell Gate NY, so I couldn't resist setting the pole on the Genoa for a downwind run. Its very useful to keep the Genoa flying even if the autohelm wanders a bit. Everything going so well, I took a nap, and let the wife run the show.
Bottom line, keep it on board and play with it using a halyard as a topping lift. As you get more comfortable have a retired guy from the pointy end help you fly the chute. One more tool for light air sailing pleasure.

My boat has the Forespar spinnaker chocks on the deck - very secure, and pretty much snag proof. That said, they do require holes in the deck.

I fly spinnakers solo; not always easy,  but I've always been a bowman on racing boats and I can't stop myself. It's been said that the spinnaker is "a larger colorful sail designed to keep the crew busy in light airs". For our boats, I'd have to agree with the sentiment.

I use Forespar stanchion chocks to hold by spinnaker bow sprit ; mounted on starbour side since most of our docking is to port.
