What are these?

At the top of my engine I have a toggle switch. Can anyone tell me what it does?

Also, on the bottom of the engine bay, towards the front on the port side (near the rubbish bin) there's a tap. It is in the engine bay and is usually hidden by the cover. See photo. Mine is almost corroded shut -or open! What does it do?

Many thanks in advance.

Sorry, but I'm unable to post more than one photo! Something else to learn. :p

Here's the photo of the toggle switch at the top of the engine.

Are you the original owner of the boat? I've never seen such a toggle switch installed by the factory, it may have been installed by a PO?

The tap is the drain for the waterlift muffler. You can drain the muffler when winterizing. I personally skip that step as I've already filled the muffler with antifreeze poured into the intake filter and run through the cooling water pump and heat exchanger.

The tap is also to drain the waterlift muffler if you end up cranking the engine excessively, resulting in the muffler filling with water. Without the engine starting and continually running, the water can not be expelled through the exhaust. If the muffler fills, the water can backflow into the engine, causing all types of problems.

As for the switch, what is it connected to? That should tell you it's function. It is not original from Catalina.

It looks like a PO addition and I suspect it may be an ignition bypass for the fuel pump. If you throw the switch, listen to the fuel pump. If it turns on (clicking sound), it is a bypass switch which is useful for purging fuel lines. I have one installed on Hilbre.
Hope this helps.

What this toggle switch could be is the switch to turn on and off the 12V oil pump out motor. The PO of my boat installed a 12V motor to extract the oil form the oil pan. Just a guess.....
