Hello all
I need a bit of advice on the LPG gas system for my 1999 MKII, basically I have been told that the rubber lines should be replaced as these are old and the expiry date on them is over 3 years ago.
The problem I face is that the engineer looking at it recommended to replace also the metal pipes, but I dont think that there is any real reason behind, just for the sake of safety (which I agree)
Do you have experience on this?
Another issue is the piping system. "NPT" thread pipe connectors are used on board, NPT is American thread standard and this thread connectors are not available in Hong Kong. So if I wish to replace gas piping, we have to replace with "BSP" fittings, will most likely will incur on replacing the LPG sensor, or get the parts from the states.
Please advice!:confused::confused:

Sorry you're not feeling the love this time, but you may be discussing a matter that is unique to your HK regulatory area...I'm not sure. I was unaware the propane hoses had an expiration date. Does the HK gov't regulate such things???
If you need US fittings couldn't you order them online, or get someone over here to send them to you?
BTW, how is HK harbour? It was a cesspool back when I lived there in the late '70s. You sure didn't want to fall overboard from the Star Ferry. Hopefully it has been cleaned up some. There are some nice South China Sea cruising spots around, though.

Hi
The harbour (according to the old legends) used to be crystal clear back in the 70's, compared to the current waters....
Yes here the government also checks the expiry date on rubber hoses and the insurance will not cover on any event if these are not up-to-date.
According to the engineer looking at this here, the metal hoses are also corroded and need replacement, but due to ignorance on my side I have not been able to find a website to purchase them on the states, and if I replace them here I'll also need to replace the LPG valve/sensor.

I never heard of a expire date on LPG hoses either. Is the date printed on the hose?

I replaced my CNG stove and all parts 2 yrs ago with LPQ stove/oven. All the parts (including metal fittings and hoses) I needed were ordered online through West Marine and Defender. Not sure what problems you would have with shipping and customs though. Maybe try your local Catalina dealer if there is one too? Good Luck
