C36 Anchor Survey Now Posted

I just created a pdf as the *beginning* of a thorough survey of C36 anchors.

This survey is intended to identify different types of anchors and show how they ride in C36 bow rollers. It is NOT intended to be a venue for discussing relative holding merits, as there are so many variables, different bottoms, different rodes, different scopes, that the usefulness of the document would be compromised. If your type of anchor is not represented, then please email me information together with photos (especially photos that show in profile how the anchor rides in the bow roller).

This document will reside in the Technical - Reference Library, where it will be accessible only to paid-up Members (capital M) of the C36IA. However, for a week or so I am posting it on the C36IA homepage where it can be viewed by anyone visiting our website. Your quickest way to the C36IA homepage is by clicking 'Catalina 36 International Association' in the blue bar, lower right corner of this page.

Larry,

Great idea and I look forward to the results. I will contribute with my info, but some will have to wait until I can get under the winter cover to make measurements. But I think there also needs to be provision to describe the roller furler and how high above the deck the drum is. That can make a big difference on how much clearance the anchor has when being retrieved. Just a thought.

Sheeez, Howard. Cut me some slack, will ya? I'm a sailor, not a power boater, so I'm used to taking my time.

Actually I have been hanging back because I got so few inputs. I am sure our owners have a WIDE variety of anchors, but I have only four or five listed so far. Maybe posting the article will motivate others to ante up some info. (And Tom, thank you for the offer.)

Duane, hopefully it's only the beginning. As more folks send in their anchor photos the document can expand to become more and more valuable. Thanks.

I will take some pictures of our setup and get them too you once the winter cover is off the boat in the spring. Plus I just got a new anchor and am looking forward to seeing how it fits on the rollers, and how well it holds.

Fred, send photos of your present setup, and then send photos of the new when you get it aboard.

Send photos and info as high-resolution jpegs to me at LCBrandt (at) comcast (dot) com. Thanks.
