I looked up the replacement fuel pump listed in the encyclopedia, Napa/facet #610-1051, it is completely different style pump compared to what I just removed from the boat. Has anyone used that model? Is the encyclopedia correct?

I'm using that pump now. It comes in two different pressures but either of them work fine. They are so much cheaper than the other one you can afford to carry a spare. They have a bit of a spotty reputation but we are into year 2 with this one and it's still ticking along fine (he says touching wood).
I just got the exact replacement at NAPA. It was 150 but I liked the idea of the filter in it and not having to re-plumb anything. I might buy the other because its so cheap and keep it as spare. As usual thanks for the help.

Personally, I believe the little filter in the old cannister style fuel pump is a needless item. If you've got a racor upstream of it and are keeping it serviced then that filter is not doing much. Even more true because most boats seem to have 2 micron filters in the Racor which is much finer than the filter in the old style can pumps. The new style pump comes with a little screw in filter as well. However the instructions say it has to be used only if there is no filter between the pump and the tank. Well, we've got 2 great honking Racors in there so that little thing is of no value at all. That old can style pump up here sells for almost 300 bucks, the little black one is $65. They do exactly the same thing. Simple choice in my book.
You should be able to find the 12V fuel pump at Catalina Direct for Catalinas over 30 feet. Goes by the name "Fuel Pump Electric Universal Diesel" @ $237. That is what I have on my 1988 C36. If you buy this pump you may want to get some spare pump filters also.

Put in the new fuel pump yesterday. What a difference. I read on other sites that this boat will run without a fuel pump until tank is half full. Well I proved that right. My tank was exactly half full when it wouldn't start. After changing filters and bleeding the system I discovered that the pump wasn't working. The new pump solved multiple issues. The engine was continuously serging up and down I had to push the idel up to 1100 to keep it going, would not run higher then 1800 rpm and finally not starting at half full last weekend. All these issues solved with new pump. If you have any of these symptoms. Change your pump
