where's my fuel tank shut off??

I'm trying to replace the spin off Racor R24S water separator/filter but can't find any way to shut off the fuel while I replace it. And if I spin off that filter I'm gonna get 25 gallons of diesel in the boat because the tank is full. I've looked everywhere. Am I missing something or do I have to pull off a hose and plug it quickly and deal with the spillage? There must be a better way that I can't see.
As usual, I need HELP!
Thanks
Sam

Sam, not sure if your boat is Mk I or II layout fuel tank wise, but if your Mk 1.75 is like a Mk II your fuel tank is in the port aft side under the cockpit locker. In the bottom of that cockpit locker there should be an access port, spin that off and right under it is the fuel shutoff valve. At least that's the way it is on our Mk II.

Sam...

I don't think you need to shut off the fuel tank. I change mine filters twice a year and have never turned the tank off at the shut-off(on my MK II its under the port cockpit seat too). You might want to try it so you'll know if you have to do a quick change in an emergency. I do drain the filter before I try to remove it.

Thanks guys, I'm always impressed with the great respones I get to my never ending questions on this site. I do have that same acess panel in the cockpit locker but unless I just missed it, there's not shut off on it. I'll go down and look again. And if not I'll try the drain the filter suggestion.
Thanks

Sam,
I have the same '94 and there is an access to a shut off on the port side as described above. I have always closed it.

Thanks Richard. I'm sure I must have it. Just blind and impatient I guess. Going back down tomorrow.
Sam,pBy the way, have you ever had your fuel tank cleaned out? If so how did the cleaner person access the tank?

Capt. Sam - here is a link to the photo of valves on my 1999 MKII. I wonder if yours are the same. These opening are inside the port lazarette.
Also view the photo just before and several after it. You will see the location of the openings and the you will see the fuel tank.

I put an article in here on removing the Mark II fuel tank. I think it's in the maintenance section of this webs site. It's pretty easy to do. I took it to a rad shop that cleans fuel tanks. They get into it through the openings with rods on a high pressure cleaner to get the crap out.

Thanks guys for all the help. I see the two access port on Haro's boat. I've only got one of those, the one over the fuel outlet-to-engin line. Unless there's another one under the refridgerator unit which is mounted right next to the one. I'm going to move the fridge back about 10 inches and install another access port right where yours is. There are tank cleaning services that will come to your boat and do the job. I know there are such services down in St. Pete, Fl where I bought my boat. But maybe not up in my neighborhood.
Thanks again.
