I think that's what it's called - the cable that goes to the top of the rudder post from the bottom of the steering wheel assembly (accessible by removing that panel up above the aft berth. Anyway, that cable seems to be excessively loose. I looked but I couldn't figure out how to tighten it up. Can anybody tell me the procedure? Thanks.

The cables terminate on either side of the quadrant, that horizontal plate shaped like a large pie wedge with the pivot point at the rudder post.
At the cable termination is a threaded stud with two nuts. You loosen the outer locking nut, then turn the inner nut until the cable tension is where you want it. Then hold the inner nut with a thin wrench while you tighten the outer nut against the inner to lock the nuts in place.

There should be a nuts on both ends of the cable. Tighten them up evenly (same number of turns) so your steering wheel stays centered.
Also check the pins that hold the pulleys in place where the cables turn to go up the pedistal. Early models had brass pins that wear causing the pulleys to get loose, causing cable slack. Replacement stainless pins are available from Edson.
