Hello,
Does anyone know if the inner and outer part of the cabin roof can delaminate from each other? Or were they never bonded together? The reason for my asking this, is that from time to time I have leaking chainplates, windows, hatches and all other through bolted stuff like stanchions or main sheet hardware.
Since this is going on since we bought the boat (36 mk1, 1991) in 2019 and some solutions help and others do not, I decided to ask an insurance tech expert for help.
He suggested delamination, especially in the roof at which point I suggested to fill her up with Aqua swell. That is PUR foam which hardens in contact with water, since epoxy does not work in this moisture environment, that is at least my experience. And stuff like butylkit or other kit and backing plates do help to stop leaking, but they do not take away the cause of it.
And it is my understanding that this has to do with delamination and/or a construction of the cabin which causes to much movement that forces on the standing rigging and mainsheet blocks for example are simply to strong for it.
Before using this somehow unusual method I was wondering if there are any drawings of how the cabin roof is constructed. The already available technical drawing of the deck and cabin is from the top, I need to know how both inner and outer (the cabin deck) parts are assembled together or not.
And if my theory above about the probable cause and how to deal with is incorrect, please let me know!
Kind regards,
Floris
