PRM 60D transmisson

Has any one instaled a PRM 60D trans to replace the hurth 50. My 50 is getting rebuilt but the shop showed me the PRM .It 1/2 in longer and would have to raise engine 1/4 in The shifter is on the other side

Many thanks to Bill for posting this topic, and for calling me personally to discuss.

This summer, after two Hurth failures, I replaced my Mk II's transmission with a PRM 120. The 120 is 1-1/2" longer than the Hurth HBW 100, requiring me to rebed the engine 1" forward of the stock location. It's a fine performing tranmission, but I am not completely satisfied with this mod; plus I still have a lot of woodwork to accomplish to replace the temporary 2x4 spacer I installed that moved the engine cover and companionway steps forward by 1". Bill's research opened my eyes to another possibile transmission that seems to make for a 'more elegant' installation on the Mk II.

Mk II owners can 'stay tuned' for more details. Once the warm weather returns to PDX I will attack my project again. Thanks to Bill Miller, I'm now considering a PRM 80 or PRM 90 as a potential 'right' transmission for my boat.

Thanks Larry.I will be picking up my PRM60D2 tomorrow. This might be a good way to go for people with a hurth 50.If you read the specs it is rated for pleasure use for 37hp and 500 hours a year or light commerical use at 33hp and 2000 hrs a year .If I could ever get 2000 or even 1000 on my hurth it would be great.  hopefull with Larry changing out his hurth 100 and me doing my hurth 50 people will have something else to turn to will keep you informed

Well I got the PRM60 D2 transmission installed A very easy install. The trany is 5/16 longer was able to move shaft back. You need to raise engine approx 1/4 inch.Turned the lever 180 since you push the lever forward to go forward, just the opposit of the hurth 50.Pulled the shift cable out from under the center water tank because the shifter is on the other side on this trans.Made a bracket with a jog for the cable. The lever comes with 2 holes but you need to drill another hole closer to the center of arm to get the full throw of the trannyThanks to Larry as he found this out about his PRM120 Painte the bell housing and tranny when it was out and now painting yhe engine with universal ice blue but I think its gold at 35$ a can Need to put heat exchanger ,which I had overhauled, back in and riser and some hoses ,then start up.Will post some pictures when all done and run it

Bill-
What model engine Universal engine did your PRM 60D bolt onto? Did the bolt holes line up with the Universal bell housing or did you have to modify anything? I assume the transmission spline shaft fit ok with the spline pattern in the damper plate hub?
Thanks

I have the 25xp with the hurth 50 transmission. You would need to go to the PRM90 to replace your hurth 100 .Larry Brandt has ordered one for his boat which should work on all MK 11 boats

Hi Larry-
I was wondering if you ever got a chance to install the PRM 90D and if so, how it went?
