Part 1 - cautionary tale:
I was attempting to replace the thermostat on my M25. Both bolts were seized and the heads snapped off. The thermostat housing would still not come off. With penetrating oil and light tapping one of the bolts released. Even after a couple of weeks worth of tapping, lots of PB Blaster and even with application of heat, the other bolt would not let go. Facing a pending launch date, I began adding more force (a really dumb move) and cracked the water flange.
Part 2 - looking for suggestions:
As you can see in the attached picture, there is not much space between the water flange and the gear case housing. There is not enough room to back out the water flange bolts. Is there some trick anyone knows to remove & replace the water flange without removing the gear case? If the gear case housing does need to be removed it looks like it can be done in place without involving the oil pan, is that correct?

If you go to the technical section in the C36 Site you will see the parts list for a Kubota d950 engine. http://www.c36ia.com/files/Kubota%20D950%20Parts%20Manual%20(M25).pdf
It shows the part you are looking for. This manual should also give you a good idea what to take appart. There are also a few sites that can lead you through the process. Here is the part you are looking for:

steadfast, sorry to hear about your issue. Good advice from Wavelength. From your photo, it appears that you may have not replaced the alternator bracket on your M25 engine. If you have, sorry for the misread of the photo.

Ross & Stu thanks for the speedy replies. I had obtained a Kubota parts manual from TractorSmart (now Keller Kubota) but they sent me the parts manual for the D850 for my 1984 vintage M25 Universal. Is the D950 the correct equivalent?
Stu: Regarding the alternator bracket, it was removed it before I took the picture. I believe the previous owner had it upgraded. It is the type that attaches to the stud and a bolt on the water flange and to 4 studs on the side of the exhaust manifold.

The 950 is the engine. I just ordered 2 water pumps from a place in Texas for 50.00 each for the D950 Fit perfect.
On the cover of the manual for the 950 it is dated 1982..
