Bleeding M35

After owning this boat for 6 years and having done all the work on it, I feel kind of foolish to bring this up but... in case it helps any of the new owners...

Even though I had completely drained the fuel lines from the tank in the past, I never had trouble starting the engine by simply filling the filters with fuel, cracking the engine filter, pushing the starter until the engine "coughed", closing the filter and off I went.

This spring I had taken the water serperator out and when I went to start it, the engine ran on the fuel in the filter but then died, and I couldn't get it to bleed the way I normally did. I kow you can't run the starter for more than 30 seconds so I couldn't figure out how to bleed it.

On my old C30 (M25), I could turn the key on with the battery off, switch on the battery in the cabin and watch for the fuel to come out the bleed valve, but this didn't work with the M35.

The solution is so simple its embarrassing but I've never seen anything in the manual about how to get the U35 fuel pump to activate. Turns out on the 25 I'd turn the starter swith on then turn it one click further which activated the starter. On the 35 you turn the key on then press a starter button. If you turn the key on the 35 past the start position, and hold it... its spring loaded, it activates the fuel pump and it bled right out... who knew?

Makes iit kind of hard to bleed it yourself as you can't turn the key and see the engin at the same time, nor hear from the cockpit if the pump is pumping so maybe someone has a better solution but I hope this helps someone.

ALSO... for those in the NYC area... Tall Ships coming in for a week starting in a couple of days so keep an eye out.

You'll have to do some reading and click on some links.
