Has anyone ever removed the holding tank from a MKI? I think I have a small crack at the bottom of the tank and want to remove it without destroying it. It seems like it is fiberglassed into the boat. It does not move at all. I think the only way to get it out is to cut it out. If you have succesfully removed this tank please let me know and any tricks to getting it out would be appreciated.
Thanks

There may have been another way, but I went with the "destructive removal" method..

Curious, Eric. When you tore out the bottom, do you remember how it was attached?

Lori Lee,
I removed and replaced the holding tank from Julandra (#659) right after I bought it. The PO had left the tank half full over a New England winter, and the 1.5" female fitting at the bottom of the tank had split. With the spring thaw, the contents had dripped into the bilge. How lovely. I doubt very much you have a crack in the tank itself (they are over 1/4" thick and very sturdy), but the fitting(s) are always suspect. I had to cut away the fiberglass tabbing that held the small plywood bulkheads, which held the tank in place. There was no fiberglass attached to the tank itself, but the small plywood bulkheads hold the tank tightly in place. The tank would not just "lift up". I think I used a dremel tool, and it was fairly easy. Once the new tank was in place, I added a few layers of fiberglass and resin over the cuts I had made to put the bulkheads back. Hope this helps.
