Sails
Two weeks ago while sailing my one year old C375 Lila Jean offshore I had the lower batten in the mainsail blow out in about 17 knot winds. I lowered the mainsail and removed it from the rig as this was the only way I could inspect the sail. I then took the mainsail to Mack Sails in Stuart for a complete inspection. Mack sails thoroughly inspected the mainsail and reported to me this sail has several major defects occurring at time of manufacture:
"I have sent 4 pictures of the mainsail where the sail is coming apart. The batten pocket repairs can be done with some reinforcing and batten caps. The troublesome issue is the leech tabling. The cloth has literally torn at the tabling. Most likely from flutter and poor warp yarns. The sail tears very easily once it is started".
I have submitted a warranty claim to Catalina and am a waiting a reply. Has anyone had similar problems with their Catalina sails? Who manufactured this mainsail? Was it made in China? What is the warranty on the sail?
