Our
first owner photo of 2002 links
Catalina to its international acclaim, coming from Europe's land of
dikes and wooden shoes...
"Here
with we send you a picture of our Catalina 36, hull nr. 1263.
We own this ship since 4 years. Normally we are sailing on
IJsselmeer and North Sea, but after a sailing day wind 5 Bf. it is very
comfortable to shop and stay for the night in the city centre of
Lemmer.(Holland). If it is interesting we will send you more Dutch
Pictures*."
Nick and Lia Miltenburg
Netherlands, Europe
*And
there's more... as C36 owners declared they were
interested. When members emailed and asked Nick and Lia to share more photos,
Nick sent nine additional photos from the Netherlands, along with
captions...

And
from Alaska, winter becomes a time for regular boat checks and looking
ahead to the next season...
We
go down to Seward every few weeks to check on Anuqa. Seward's 125 miles
south of Anchorage, and the trip down becomes a 2 1/2 hour adventure
both coming and going - climbing mountains, through passes, over frozen
rivers. But Seward is the Florida for Alaskans, with ice-free
harbor and normally above-freezing weather in the winter. It's a
one-day trip we look forward to as we make plans for next summer. (Photo
above taken New Year's Day 2002)

Ken Perry's "Valjean" - from 2000 Lakefest Regatta...
These were taken by Boatpix during the 2000 Lakefest Regatta on Lake Texoma, Texas/Oklahoma. Boatpix gave their permission to post them if they were
mentioned as the photographer! Can you believe it? I was accompanied by a friend, Carl Anderson and his six year old son, Martin. This is the Valjean doing what she does best!
Thanks, Ken Perry

Remarkable view "Cruizin Suzan" shared
Here is an unusual picture of our 1989 Catalina 36 "Cruzin Suzan". I was working aloft in a bucket lift, replacing the anchor light and wind instruments. She is at her
dock...The Catawba Moorings, Catawba Island, Ohio on Lake Erie. My wife and I are the original owners and we have 13 years of great family memories from our many sailing adventures that included our two daughters, sons-in-law, along with many
other family and friends.

Having a great time in Puget Sound

We've been daysailing and going out on a couple of overnites, with a 3 week trip planned to the San Juan Islands later this month. We're fortunate to live only
7 minutes from the marina, so we can dash just about any time we want! We're quickly learning the art of shortening the genny... out in 27 knots last week, we were heeling at about 35-40 degrees, genoa all the way out (the 150), which
was not the most comfortable or efficient manner to sail her! But, I'm learning quickly! Fortunately, my husband has sailed his whole life, so an unexpected windy squall probably won't get us killed!

From the top, the question asked is:
"Have you hugged your mast today?"
.
Attached are a couple of photos of S/V Four Sail, C36 #206 (1984 model). I was doing a little work up the mast and took a few shots...
Have you hugged your mast lately?

Sailing Inland - on the Utah-Idaho border

We sail on Bear Lake which is located on the Utah-Idaho border. The elevation is just under 6000ft. Unfortunately we will only have a few more
weeks left due to very low water levels. The sad fact is that 100 yds out of the marina there is 50+ ft. of water. We have to have room under the boat for the trailer. I figure when we get down to 9ft. in the marina
it's time to get out.

A
gorgeous night under anchor in Rhode Island

Here's
a nice shot that I took last August when we were anchored off Pt. Judith
RI.
It was a gorgeous night. A couple of boats in it -- not a crowded
anchorage. Not much cover from the southwesters but the seawall provides
protection from those big seas!

Between
Fishers Island and Race Rock Lighthouse
Here is a picture of Magic III taken
last summer from a friends Valiant 40. No wind for most of
the day then it started to pick up. It is maybe blowing 7
knots here. I killed him in light winds but he would
kill me in 20 knots. On his boat I see 8's and 9's.
Mine is 7's and 8's unless I am surfing.
Great summer for sailing. Mostly
light to Medium winds. With a drought and no rain the
Bermuda high just sat there day after day. Bringing in
light winds. Good news was that there were few if any
bad week ends and not to many squalls.
Picture is taken between Fishers Island
and Race Rock Light house. The tide is dead slack but
this area is known for 3 to 5 knot currents when the tide is
running. The trick here is to always make sure
the tide is on your side. If racing there is a
top secret way to get through the race to minimize the current.
But this is top secret as it took me 5 years to figure it out.
Ian who you can see in the Jump seat started feeling sick right
after this picture was taken. With little wind the sun
does a number on you. Wearing a hat and staying in the
shade is important. And drink plenty of liquids (not
beer) to stay hydrated.

Sunset
& firworks in Newport, Rhode Island

Here
is a photo of a sunset in Newport RI. We were aboard "Proud

They light the fireworks from a barge next to the bridge.
